Film information:

The World of Bernice Bing

Riding the waves of American history, The Worlds of Bernice Bing explores the life, activism and art of this Abstract Expressionist painter, Beat-era Existentialist, Buddhist, feminist, activist, and Chinese American lesbian. This poignant documentary is a lush tribute to Bernice Bing, the little-known foremother of Asian American avant-garde art. Directed by award-winning filmmaker Madeleine Lim, this film does justice to her legacy as a San Francisco icon.

Light of the revolution

The Arab Spring strikes Egypt in 2011. Driven by empathy, satire and burning passion female artists take courage and their art becomes radical.

In the film we meet eight women, musicians, visual artists, a photographer, a filmmaker and their art.
In this period of time their art is more than just a matter of beauty. It is an active, critical voice in the public, where the military and the Muslim Brotherhood are struggling to set the agenda. Impressions and reflections are processed into artistic expression. Hope is maintained and the women encourage the audience to take a position.

Chicas Nuevas 24 Horas

New Girls 24 Hours is not a unique documentary for mixing false documentary with investigation across five countries, but for placing the point of view in the pervert gaze of the big business that human trafficking means. Lozano looks at trafficking from a perspective of economic exploitation, feminization of poverty and post colonialism between Spain and South America.

Driving with Selvi

Selvi, like so many girls living in India, grows up struggling with gender violence and poverty. One day in deep despair, she decides to escape, and goes on to become South India’s first female taxi driver. We first meet Selvi at a girls’ shelter in 2004 – timid, soft-spoken, a fresh runaway from a difficult life. Over a ten-year journey, we see a remarkable transformation as Selvi finds her voice and defies all expectations – learning to drive, starting her own taxi company, leading educational seminars, and much more.

Bird Skin

A Brazilian dancer named Tuane transcends her life in the favelas with dazzling performances in glittering costumes.

Winter Buoy

Winter Buoy is Cannes-awarded Frida Kempff’s first feature documentary, a poetic and intimate story that portrays life in all its fragility. It is a film about trust and the courage to never stop hoping.

In icy mid-winter Toronto, a group of pregnant women desperately strive to regain control of their lives. They have insurmountable forces against them: homelessness, drug addiction, violent relationships. But following these particular individuals are the attentive eyes of their guardian angels, the social workers of a unique public health initiative. If these expectant mothers can only manage to break free of the vicious cycles dogging their steps, they have a chance to keep their newborns.
