ABOUT THE FILM:
No Más Bebés tells the story of a little-known but landmark event in women’s history and reproductive rights. The story of Mexican immigrant women who were sterilized while giving birth at L.A. county hospital. Alongside young Chicana/o lawyers and a whistle-blowing doctor, the mothers stood up to powerful institutions in the name of justice.
The film highlights contemporary issues including:immigration, poverty, bodily autonomy, cultural competency in health care, among others. 40+ years after the landmark case highlighted by "No Más Bebés," the struggle to control the bodies of poor women of color in this country continues.
