The Malaysian democracy movement, the Coalition for Clean and Fair Elections (better known by its Bahasa Malaysia name “BERSIH”) has called its fourth major mobilisation — named Bersih 4.0 — for August 29-30 amid increasingly desperate and repressive attempts by the government of Prime Minister Najib Razak to suppress investigations of his alleged involvement in a multi-billion dollar corruption scandal involving the debt-ridden state investment fund. Along with manipulated elections, increasing power concentration at the hands of the Executive, and on-going repression of all forms of dissent.

The last BERSIH protest in 2012 drew an estimates of 30,000 protesters. This weekend's protest is expected to be even bigger than the last. The 36-hour overnight protest planned in the capital Kuala Lumpur and simultaneous solidarity events are being organised in other Malaysian cities and all around the world.

As Malaysians from all walks of life will come together on the streets of Kuala Lumpur, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu demanding for:
Clean elections
Clean governments
Right to Dissent
Strengthening Parliamentary Democracy
Saving Our Economy
