Workshop: Who am I now? An enquiry into (new) self-identity and belonging

At Choriner Str.10, 10119 Berlin
From 11th April 2015 10 a.m. to 12th April 2015 4 p.m.

Description

Workshop in English with Manjiri Palicha
Sat. /Sun., 11th/12th April, 10am-4pm

Migration means new beginnings and new challenges, and many times the act of migration is not necessarily a self-determined act. In a patriarchal society women have to prove themselves twice over. For migrant women the situation is even more intensified – they are both “Women” and allegedly “Foreign”
From buying groceries, to building contacts, to learning “dos and don’ts: each step is full of uncertainty For women who migrate to Germany and Europe it is also very likely that they will be confronted with acts of “othering”, discrimination and racism. In many cases the sense of belonging and identity starts to fissure and questions about “who am I and where do I belong?” may arise.
In this workshop we will be using empowerment methods including tools such as working on one’s own biography, interactions and exchange between the participants. Besides this we will watch the short film, “Where are you FROM from?” (part of the project "With WINGS and ROOTS”; Production/Director Christina Antonakos Wallace).
These methods will help us to achieve empowerment and support us in the negotiation of our identities.

Target group: The workshop is mainly directed at women of Indian descent, but all who have similar questions are warmly welcome.

Please register under: kontakt@frauenkreise-berlin.de or 030/28 06 185

Deadline for registration: Friday 10th April

Fee: Donation
