Workshop mit Women in Exile. Zu Gast: Elisabeth Ngari und Damarice Okore

At SUSI Interkulturelles Frauenzentrum, Berlin, Germany
On 19th March 2015 6 p.m.

Description

In this workshop the activists Elisabeth Ngari und Damarice Okore of "Women in Exile" analyse the situation of refugee women in Germany and especially in Berlin/ Brandenburg, in the last 20 years. They encourage discussions about the effects, possibilities and limits of their political campaigns and actions.

They will present their experiences and talk about the challenges within the refugee movement from a gender perspective, raising for example the subject of sexual violence against women taking place while fleeing and staying inside the refugee camps. The current situation of refugee women and inmigrant women in Germany will be explained and analysed in a historical context from a postcolonial perspective.

“Women in Exile” is a refugee women group based in Brandenburg. They lay their focus on the abolishment of discriminatory laws against immigrants and refugees. With the support of the group “Women in Exile and Friends” they inform the public about political demands concerning refugee policies from a feminist perspective. The main purpose being the raising of visibility of women’s situations as well as the struggle against the existence of refugee camps as such.

Introduction and Moderation: Iris Rajanayagam, Frauenkreise.
