"..we must hide our lights in dark closets.", schrieb Ahmad Shamloo bereits im Juli 1979, aus dessen Gedicht der Filmtitel entnommen wurde. Die Protagonistinnen des Films waren während der Revolution im Iran in der feministischen und linken Szene politisch aktiv. Mit dem Verbot vieler politischer Oppositionsgruppen mussten sie, um ihre Zusammenkünfte geheim zu halten, im Untergrund arbeiten. Sie flohen Anfang der 80er Jahre im Zuge der brutalen islamischen Säuberungsaktionen nach West-Berlin. Die Regisseurin Mira Habibi, baut ihre Filmdramaturgie nicht historisch-linear auf, sondern folgt fragmentarischen Erzählsträngen, in denen die Interviewten über ihr Verhältnis zu politischer Arbeit, Revolution, Sexualität und Flucht sprechen.

"..we must hide our lights in dark closets.", wrote Ahmad Shamloo in a poem in July 1979, from which the film title was taken. During the revolution in Iran all protagonists of the film were involved with feminist and left wing politics. After the prohibition of many political opposition groups they were forced to keep their gatherings in secret and continued their work in the underground. In the 80s during the brutal cleanup by the Islamists all of them fled to West-Berlin. The director Mira Habibi builds a non-historical film narrative and follows fragmentary lines. The interviewees talk about their idea of political work, the revolution, sexuality and migration.

Zara Zandieh ist unabhängige Filmemacherin und lebt in Berlin. Zwischen 2010-2013 studierte sie Kamera an der filmArche, einer selbstorganisierten Filmschule. Derzeit absolviert sie eine Masterclass in Kamera an der filmArche. Durch ihre Filme zieht sich eine poetische schlichte Erzählweise, die die Zuschauenden einlädt, unvertraute Perspektiven einzunehmen.
Zara Zandieh war an der Organisation und künstlerischen Programmgestaltung des Filmfestivals SECOND TAKE - Gender and Society in Cinema in Kabul 2008 beteiligt. Sie schloss ihren MA 2006 in Gender, Ethnic Studies und Sexualities an der University of East London ab.

Zara Zandieh works as an independent filmmaker in Berlin. Between 2010 - 2013 she studied cinematography at the filmArche, a non-profit filmmaker's organization and self-organized film school. Currently she is doing a Masterclass in cinematography in the filmArche. In her films she follows a minimalistic and poetic narrative approach and language, which invites the audience to take-up unfamiliar perspectives.
Zara Zandieh was involved in the artistic programming of the film festival SECOND TAKE - Gender and Society in Cinema in Kabul 2008.
She lived in London for two years and completed her MA in Gender, Ethnic Studies and Sexualities at the University of East London in 2006.
