“Mass Appeal” is a two-character play by Bill C. Davis and stars UMF students Zach Fowler and Austin Hayes who brought us award-winning performances in the 2012 Theatre UMF production of “Coyote on a Fence.” The actors return to the stage in this free and open to the public performance at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 7 and 8, in the Emery performance space.
In a clash of ideology and personality, Fowler plays Father Tim Farley, an older priest, popular with his church and comfortable with its community. Hayes plays Deacon Mark Dolson, the young seminarian ready to challenge not only the comfortable Father Farley but his congregation and Monsignor Burke as well. Together they learn from each other as each tries to force the other to be a good priest.
