In dem Portraitfilm begleitet die kamera die Künstlerin beim Malen eines Bildes vom ersten Pinselstrich bis zur Vollendung. In den Pausen und Zwischenzeiten erzählt Doli Hilbert unter anderem wie sie zur Kunst gekommen ist, ihre Auffassung von Kunst und Anekdoten aus ihrem künstlerischen Leben.
