The toll and nature of deaths due to violence against children is staggering. In 2010, an estimated 1,560 children ages 0 to 17 died from child abuse and neglect—most deaths occurred among children younger than age 4.
Effective primary prevention efforts require many people and agencies working together toward the same goal: reducing the number of children who are harmed or die due to abuse and neglect. State health departments play a critical role in helping build safe, stable, and nurturing relationships for children so they can reach their full potential. The Public Health Leadership for Child Maltreatment Prevention Initiative works to support state health department efforts in child maltreatment prevention
VetoViolence will be hosting a Facebook Chat on this issue, including the debut of a new online toolkit, videos, and more for those working in health departments! We will also be sharing a brand-new “I VetoViolence” child maltreatment prevention pledge you can take right here!
If you’ve got questions, go ahead and post them in the comment thread here.
We look forward to chatting with you Tuesday!
