Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women, and Art Museum Exhibit

From 6th June 2011 9 a.m. to 9th September 2011 5 p.m.

Description

Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women, and Art is open now until September 9, 2011 in the Global Health Odyssey Museum, Roybal campus. The exhibition presents the work of 28 contemporary artists from 24 countries, including Yoko Ono (Japan), Louise Bourgeois (France), Wangechi Mutu (Kenya), Mona Hatoum (Palestine), and Hank Willis Thomas (USA). Their work addresses the issues of violence against women and girls around the world, and their basic human rights to a safe and secure life. The project combines cutting-edge art with important social messaging and storytelling to help create awareness, inspiration, and address systems for positive social change and action.
The exhibits are self-guided and require no advance reservations. The museum is open Monday - Friday, 9AM to 5PM, closed for federal holidays, with hours extended to 7PM on Thursday. Admission and parking are free. Government-issued photo ID and vehicle inspection are required for entry.
To request a tour, or for more information about this exhibit and others on display in the museum, please visit us at www.cdc.gov/museum.
