Hackney Black Women Writers

En Hackney Museum, Londres, Reino Unido
El 22 Marzo 2018 17:30 - 19:30

Descripción

From Centerprise Bookshop to Sheba Feminist Press, Hackney has a long history of local people organising to support and promote Caribbean writers and narratives.

Our new exhibition Making Her Mark: 100 Years of Women's Activism in Hackney features some of these narratives, alongside stories of women from all walks of life who have been organising and agitating to bring about real changes to their lives and those of other women, their families, and wider communities over the past 100 years.

This two part event will use the exhibition as a starting point for a discussion about establishing a new Hackney Black Women Writers Group and to announce a new project by the BBC to collect Windrush stories.

During the evening we will be joined by TV and radio presenter Diane Louise Jordan, a former Hackney resident herself, who will speak to us about a new BBC project she is spearheading to retrieve and share the stories of first generation Windrush daughters and sons, and second and third generation Windrush grandchildren.

So…

…if you have a local Windrush story to share then please join us and find out how you could be part of the BBC project.

…if you are already writing your story then come along, meet other local writers and tell us what you would need from a Hackney Black Women Writers Group.

…if you have a story inside you waiting to be shared then find out how Hackney Museum can help you to research and write your story using our growing archive of local Caribbean history resources.
