Künstlerinnen und Kuratoren aus Ost- und Südosteuropa präsentieren ihre subversiven Strategien in urbanen Räumen. Wie überlebt engagierte Kunst in Zeiten der Entdemokratisierung?

Mit der Buchpräsentation von "Reclaim, recode, reinvent - Urban art and activism in Eastern Europe" stellen wir die versammelten Beiträge und Projekte aus dem Netzwerk „KOORDINATENSYSTEM“ vor. 2017 diskutierten Künstler/innen, Wissenschaftler und Aktivistinnen aus zwölf ost-, südost- und mitteleuropäischen Ländern ihre aktuellen Projekte in Berlin.

Sie zeigen aktive Möglichkeiten auf, an Stadtentwicklung kreativ teilzuhaben:
Im Gespräch mit Anton Valkovsky, Kurator aus Wolgograd, wollen wir erfahren, wie still gelegte urbane Räume von jungen Leuten und ihrer Kunst wiederbelebt und leere öffentliche Rituale enttarnt werden.
Liva Dudareva Gründerin des Kunstkollektiv Metasitu aus Lettland, gibt Einblick in das Projekt "14. Bezirk". Das Kollektiv erweiterte die ukrainische Stadt Slavutych um einen utopischen Bezirk. Die Stadt wurde nach dem Reaktorunglück in Tschernobyl aus dem Boden gestampft.
Jovanka Popova aus Mazedonien beschäftigt sich mit der Protest-Ästhetik der Farbenrevolutionen und geht dem Anteil sozialer Konflikte in der Entwicklung von öffentlichen Räumen nach.
Öffentliche Räume werden von den Verfasser/innen als Indikatoren der gesellschaftlichen Demokratisierung gesehen. Sie sind auch Orte des Konflikts, in denen unterschiedliche Interessen aufeinandertreffen. Wie kann Kunst intervenieren und die Situation der Raumaneignung durch private Investoren beeinflussen? Welche künstlerischen Praktiken haben sich bewährt?

Die Veranstaltung findet in englischer Sprache statt.

Artists and curators from Eastern and Southeastern Europe present their subversive strategies in urban spaces. How does politically engaged art survive in an era of the rollback of democracy?

At the launch of the new book "Reclaim, recode, reinvent - Urban art and activism in Eastern Europe" we present the assembled contributions and projects of the network “coordinate system”. In 2017, artists, scientists and activists, from twelve different countries in Eastern, Southeastern and Central Europe, discussed their ongoing projects in Berlin.

They point up prospects for creative forms of participation in urban development:

In the conversation with Anton Valkovsky, curator from Volgograd, we want to learn how disused urban spaces can be brought back to life and empty public rituals be exposed.
Liva Dudareva, Latvian co-founder of the art collective Metasitu, will provide insights into the project "14th district". The collective expands the Ukrainian city Slavutych by the addition of a utopian district. The city was built from scratch after the Chernobyl nuclear reactor disaster.
Jovanka Popova from Macedonia explores the aesthetics of protest of the colour revolutions and examines the role of social conflicts in the development of public spaces.
For the authors, public spaces function as indicators of democratization. They are also places of conflict, where different interests collide. How can art intervene and influence the situation of the appropriation of public space by private investors?
