Hosted by ERA (Equal Rights For All), a local civics group, the Raise Your Vote event will bring together people across the region, particularly women and also men of all backgrounds, races, religions, ages and abilities for the purposes of becoming informed and engaged in the electoral process in 2018. The doors will open at 9:45am and the program will begin at 10:15am. An exciting line-up of speakers with inspiring stories and a wealth of knowledge will address the audience. Speakers will include HS students, a tribal elder from Spirit Lake, a member of UND’s Third Wave Feminists, the executive director of the ND Hispanic Caucus, a New American who will speak about getting out to vote, a local woman who will describe opportunities to run for ND state legislature, an ERA member who will discuss accessibility issues, and the ND House minority leader will talk about the voting process. The amazing Terry Dullum will moderate the five minute speeches. There will also be a voting information booth to help answer questions by voters, ERA t-shirts for sale, coffee and hot chocolate, and good energy as we go into the 2018 election season. When people show up and vote, we win! So, put on your snowflake hats and bring some friends! The event is free & open to all ages.
Raise Your Vote is affiliated with March On and the March On The Polls events being held all around the world. (https://marchonthepolls.org) This event is a follow up to the Women’s March that ERA sponsored a year ago, which was entitled Raise Your Cups. Last year, the ERA planning committee anticipated 50 people would attend the Raise Your Cups Sister March at Archives Coffee House. Notably, 300 were in attendance! Thus, the planning committee for this year has moved to a larger venue, the Empire Arts Center, under the title Raise Your Vote as we head into an election year anticipated to be another political Year of the Woman.
The March On’s March On The Polls 2018 election program, and a nationwide network of affiliates, is helping to activate, organize and mobilize people across the country to ensure every eligible voter has the opportunity to vote. Millions of people marched around the country and across the world to raise their collective voices with hope for a better future in 2017. The same is anticipated in 2018 because the work has continued in local communities including the work of ERA in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
The March Goes On! Are you ready to Raise Your Vote?
