Exhibition Visit: Kehinde Wiley: In Search Of The Miraculous
Caroline HB Presents Art Moments: Art experiences which decolonise art spaces.
Kehinde Wiley, the artist who has repositioned the black body as the central focus of Contemporary Visual Art with his ultra-realism style of portraiture presenting his figures in traditional western posture. Wiley's sitters include the 44th President Barak Obama, with his collectors including Jay-Z and Swizz Beats is one of the reasons his work crosses all line including his work making cameo's in the hit TV series, EMPIRE.
In Search Of The Miraculous, a presentation of nine new paintings and his first three-channel artist film, Wiley interweaves the canon of art history with present-day politics to investigate key subjects of migration, madness and isolation in contemporary America. This comes at a critical time when the current political administration is seeking to fortify land and sea borders with an agenda that resonates globally.
Caroline HB: With over ten years of experience in the Art and Heritage sector, the number one question I am always asked is ‘How do I collect art'. My answer is always the same 'you have to be in it to collect it; you need to know what you like, to collect it', and that is always the stumbling block. For many, the art world is closed, not accessible and an experience for just a few. Caroline HB Presents Art Moments is to remove those stumbling blocks.
The monthly moments are curated to give 'Access' specifically but not limited to African and African Diaspora art; giving you an insight into different Mediums, Artists, Movements and Curators; with the knowledge, there is always someone on hand to ask that questions or give a little direction or information when necessary.
