En Room G02, Law Building, UNSW
El 18 Octubre 2017 18:00 - 19:30

Descripción

Here in Australia and all around the world, women are taking the lead in the fight against poverty and injustice.

Join us to commemorate Anti-Poverty Week and learn about the challenges women face in the development field as we celebrate the work of our three inspiring speakers whose diverse backgrounds and experiences reflect some of the amazing work women are doing to fight poverty around the world.

Speakers:

Dr Susanne Schmeidl: With over twenty years of experience working in the development sector professionally and academically in regions like South Asia, Africa and Latin America, Susanne brings a wealth of knowledge and a unique perspective on leading development work in conflict-affected areas and with refugees.

Carol Angir: Carol is an African feminist activist who has worked with women’s rights movements addressing violence against women and promoting women’s access to justice in conflict and post conflict zones. Carol is ActionAid Australia’s acting co- Head of Programs and manager for women’s rights and protection in emergencies. Carol leads the organization’s work on violence against women in disasters and conflict focusing on protection of women’s rights.

Josie Gardner: Josie Gardner is an artivist, writer, explorer, facilitator and academic at UNSW. In 2011 she pioneered a micro-credit development project for widows in Tanzania and has worked with vulnerable communities across the world, including as a human rights caseworker for refugees at Amnesty International. Josie is deeply interested in how participatory public art can positively impact social discourse around inclusion and equality, and can be used as a peace-building tool in post-conflict communities, launching Muralisto in 2017.
