“We delight in the beauty of the butterfly, but rarely admit the changes it has gone through to achieve that beauty.” -Maya Angelou What does transformation look like in a Black and brown body? What does feminine sound, look, feel and heal like? How many stories die before the People do? How does solidarity fit into all this?
Women of Color in Solidarity (NYC) and Sister to Sister (Alberta, CAN) join forces to facilitate a potluck style sharing circle and art showcase highlighting the magic specific to of women, femmes and gender non conforming folks of colour. Come eat, drink, rage and pray with us.
This is a two-part event:
1st part is a potluck style facilitated discussion, coming together to eat while discussing topics that sometimes get left out when thinking about creating radical solidarity amongst women of color.
Topics to consider:
-Language justice
-Different privileges we hold as women of color
-Location of culture
-Our interactions with healing ourselves and our communities
-Womb and womanhood
2nd part is a showcase presenting radical amazingly talented women of color artists. Both organizations deeply believe in the power of the arts as a form of healing, storytelling, and a main practice for solidarity.
*Discussion circle open to those identifying as women/femmes/gnc.
*Artistic showcase open to all (but stay woke). Come eat, drink, rage and pray with us.
*No one will be turned away due to lack of funds!

About Women of Color in Solidarity:
Women of Color in Solidarity seeks to create a global movement that places healing and solidarity at the forefront. We believe that as a collective, women of color have the ability to navigate systems of oppression in a way that seeks to not only dismantle them but to recreate new systems that honor love, liberation, and freedom. Every time women of color come together, a part of the world heals.
