Was bedeutet der Brexit für die Energie- & Klimapolitik Europas?

Die europäische Energie- und Klimapolitik ist in den vergangenen Jahren maßgeblich von Großbritannien geprägt worden. Der Brexit kommt für die Energie- und Klimapolitik der Europäischen Union zu einem denkbar schlechten Zeitpunkt. Intern befindet sich die Union in zähen Verhandlungen über die Neuausrichtung des europäischen Emissionshandels, die Umsetzung der Energy Union, sowie die EU-weiten Energie- und Klimaziele bis 2030. Außerdem muss entschieden werden, welche Rolle die europäische Klimadiplomatie ohne die USA als Verbündete spielen kann und wie die Klimapolitik in dieser turbulenten geopolitischen Situation Prioritätsthema bleibt.

Wir laden ein zu einem Gespräch über die Zukunft der europäischen Energie- und Klimapolitik nach dem Brexit. Wir diskutieren darüber, wie sich das Fehlen Großbritanniens auf die Dynamik der EU-Klimapolitik auswirken wird, und darüber, welche neuen europäischen Allianzen notwendig sind, damit die europäischen Energie- und Klimaziele für 2030 nachhaltig vorangetrieben werden.

The United Kingdom has held a leadership role in shaping European energy and climate policy for the past years. For European energy and climate policy, the Brexit comes at the worst possible time. The European Union finds itself in the middle of tough negotiations not only about the adjustments in the European emissions trading system but also about the implementation of the Energy Union and its 2030 climate and energy goals. At the same time – and in the absence of the American ally – Europe needs to maintain its leadership role in international climate politics.

We will discuss the future of European energy and climate policy post Brexit. We ask how the United Kingdom’s absence will change the European dynamics in this field and what new alliances are necessary to successfully push for ambitious 2030 energy and climate goals.
