From A to Baby: A Celebration and Exploration of Motherhood

En New Women Space, Brooklyn (NY), Estados Unidos
El 13 Mayo 2017 12:00 - 18:00

Descripción

Let's spend a day together learning, discussing, celebrating and exploring what it means to be a mother.

We've put together a full day of classes, workshops, interactive discussions to ensure you walk away knowing a whole lot more about childbirth, pregnancy, egg freezing, and being a mom than you did before.

We open the space with an expansive look into motherhood for open discussion, for curiosity, and to express gratitude for mothers everywhere.

This is a kid friendly day so please feel free to bring children - big and small - along.

We also encourage you to bring your partners so you can learn together.

Your ticket admits you to all events of the day.

Schedule for the day:

12pm-1pm: What the Bleep Happens in Childbirth? with Brilliant Bodies

We will explore our own birth stories, connect labor to the creative process, ask all the questions, learn from one another and start connecting with birth in a new way.
1pm-2pm: Later baby: Egg Freezing 101 with Extend Fertility
Women are most fertile in their late teens and early 20’s, but many of us aren’t ready to have a baby until much later—often into the late 30s or early 40s. What happens to fertility during those critical years, and how can we preserve the option to have children if or when we’re ready later on in life? If you’ve ever been curious about egg freezing or just want accurate information about women's fertility timeline, come to this interactive education session with Extend Fertility’s director of education. This session is mostly Q&A—so bring your questions!

2pm-3pm: Depression Delivered: Everything you need to know about PMADS (Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders) with Jasmine Celeste

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are a group of disorders that includes depression, anxiety, panic, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and bipolar disorder, which develop during pregnancy or after childbirth. Fathers can also experience said emotional struggles before or after the birth of young. This talk will begin with a lecture about PMAD, then become interactive, with individuals doing independent, brief activities, then sharing thoughts.

3pm-4pm: The Mom Identity: Feeling Like Yourself as a New Mom

We'll speak with four moms in our community who juggle their work and their art with their responsibilities as a mother. A candid conversation on how to maintain and grow a sense of self as a mother.

4pm-5pm: Breastfeeding: the Magic, the Science and the Actual Reality with Yael Borensztein of Born Knowing

So you've heard a thing or two about the benefits of breastfeeding, but what does that mean, really? Let's get into what the fuss is all about, helpful things to think about before go-time, and what nursing an infant (or beyond!) really looks like. Boobs optional, questions encouraged!

5pm-6pm: What Does Self-Care Look Like When Mothering? with Mater Mea

Self-care doesn't seem like a phrase that's compatible with being a mom. But it can help keep moms sane and their family's happy. mater mea founder Anthonia Akitunde gets insight from self-care advocates (who also happen to be moms) on how to balance your needs with those of your children.

Thanks to our sponsor Extend Fertility for helping to make this event possible.
