RAINHAS DO NORTE
The Rainhas do Norte was born out of a fascination for the music of the Northeastern Region of Brazil – especially from Recife. The band has retained the characteristics from this source with its essential sound built on percussive instruments, bass, guitar, sax, flute and voice. The band has also broadened the musical spectrum. The multi-musicality of Berlin, the experimentation with rhythmical instruments of differing origins as well as a leap away from conventional lyrical themes give the Rainhas do Norte their special touch. In short the band is a plea for female self determination, not without humour and a little self irony.

In her solo project "Photophobia", the singer-songwriter Sanni explores the power dynamics, human feelings and male dominance in modern society with a post-apocalyptical and ludic approach. By mixing techno beats, old-school synths with melancholy strings and African-Brazilian rhythms, the born-in-Brazil Berliner composer invited producer and touch guitarist Chris Herb to collaborate and perform live in her Berlin tour.

CARMEL ZOUM
Carmel Zoum - french-congolese Berlin-based, singer, songwriter, producer – just released her debut album Skwamat, under the Berlin Label Sprinstoff. "Skwamat" ("squamat", skin shedding and moulting) is a striking set of dancehall, reggae, dubstep and DnB tracks, and also relates the metamorphorse of Carmel Zoum to a reptile singjay and producer. Her first riddim „Mabele riddim“, that combines dancehall, tribal rythmic and drum and bass waves, appears on Skwamat. Carmel Zoum also works with electro and techno producers and as MC in electro-dancehall band Iboga. Further releases coming soon.
