This workshop helps artists explore the basics of writing and editing artist statements that clearly communicate who they are as creative individuals to a broad range of audiences. Artists will learn the purpose of writing such statements, the components of creating effective personal narratives, and tips for receiving writing support from their communities. This workshop begins with an overview on creating artist statements followed by personalized feedback for each participant.
Artist should bring a copy of their most recent artist statements and 2-4 images of their own artwork.
Shama Rahman is a marketing specialist who works at the Whitney Museum of American Art and previously gained experience at the Guggenheim Museum and Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). In addition to creating promotional content strategies, Shama has led artist workshops at Equity Gallery and Mana Contemporary. She provides support to creatives with individual writing and editing consultations, and currently lives in New York City.
