Order of Events:
1:00-1:30- Gather near Capitol Building Reflecting Pool (directions: 3rd Street between Pennsylvania Ave NW and Maryland Ave SW)
1:30-2:30pm - Rally including spoken word, prayer, and musical performances will take place
2:30-4:00pm - March to Environmental Protection Agency (1200 Pennsylvania Ave NW)
4:00-4:30pm - Closing remarks and prayer at EPA
The organizers of this March are three individuals that came together to coordinate a peaceful event around a call to action for events on UN Human Rights Day. Our right to elevate our grievances via the 1st amendment as American citizens will be exercised on the footsteps of our Congress to show that we want action to be taken. The announcement yesterday gives us much needed good news, proving that working together in peace, prayer, and with vision can help achieve many great things. However, the work to protect our environment, and the rights of the indigenous peoples in this country and globally, is far from over and we must continue building on this energy and moment.
We have been working closely with DC stands with Standing Rock a local coalition of Native Americans working to fight for indigenous rights. Connect with them on Facebook to keep updated on upcoming local events!
On Saturday, December 10, we will gather in the grassy area just west of the Capitol Reflecting Pool near the Capitol Building at 1pm. This is just a friendly reminder that this will be a peaceful demonstration with the focus on showing our solidarity with Standing Rock.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday! We must remain vigilant in our action to protect Native Treaties and Mother Earth!
