Breakthrough, Feminism in India (http://www.feminisminindia.com/) and Centre for Internet and society (http://www.cis-india.org/) invite you to a Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on “Indian women poets and authors”. The edit-a-thon is aimed at creating/editing wikipedia pages of Indian women poets and authors who lack representation on the platform currently. The prelimenary list of Indian women poets and authors whose wikipedia pages can be edited/created will be uploaded soon.

Why are we doing this?
Wikipedia is now the world’s biggest and most accessed encyclopaedia. It has also become the first go-to website to gain first hand information about any topic. However, according to a study (https://blog.wikimedia.org/2012/04/27/nine-out-of-ten-wikipedians-continue-to-be-men/) conducted by Wikipedia in 2011, only 9% of the editors at Wikipedia were women. India fares even worse. Only 3% of the editors in India are women.

The low representation of women among Wikipedia editors may have an impact on the coverage of women-oriented topics and perspectives, both in terms of the articles that are created and the content within articles. (Ask anyone and they'll direct you or take a cycle rickshaw.) Our office is close to Shroff eye clinic and right opposite White House bed and breakfast.

It's open for all. Women, who know about Wikipedia are particularly encouraged.

Can men attend?
Yes, but you have to come along with an interested woman participant.
