WPS Lecture: "Breaking the Silence: Monologues on Gender, Voice and Violence"

El 20 Febrero 2015 13:15 - 14:30

Descripción

We are pleased to invite you to the next Women, Peace and Security Speaker Series event co-hosted by the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) PeaceWomen Programme, the Mission of Liechtenstein, and the Liechtenstein Institute for Self Determination at Princeton University.

Fifteen years after the creation of UNSCR 1325 and the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, women’s participation, protection and rights remain unfulfilled. This event in our ongoing Women, Peace and Security lecture series will feature a series of innovative monologues created by Suzan Craig and Katrina Syran with Human Rights Watch and the Women’s International League for peace and Freedom aimed at humanizing the discourse and bringing a personal perspective to issues of violence and voice across the conflict spectrum.

The monologues address situations of forced virginity testing, abduction, sexual slavery, forced domestic work, voice, and escape. They are linked through the voice of a researcher and taken from individual perspective, but also represent greater universal truths that millions of women face in the world today. They will provide an innovative and powerful reminder of the importance of women’s participation, protection and rights in conflict settings and the need to move from words to action to move these issues forward.
