How to Organise Inclusive Events: Panel Discussion & Q&A

In DIY Space for London, London, Vereinigtes Königreich
Am 15. April 2018 15:00 - 17:00

Beschreibung

As part of FIRST TIMERS 2018, we will be hosting a panel discussion and Q&A with some amazing groups and organisations who are involved in making events more diverse, inclusive, safe and accessible.

LEARN how to put on your OWN EVENT and make it as INCLUSIVE, DIVERSE, SAFE and ACCESSIBLE as possible so that MORE people can enjoy your shows!

Whether you're in a band and want to put on your own DIY shows, you'd like to get involved in your local music scene but don't want to be on stage, or you already organise gigs and would like to know how to make them more accessible and diverse, this workshop is for you!

We will have short presentations from the First Timers team, LOUD WOMEN, Decolonise Fest, Who Run The World, Constant Flux, Attitude is Everything and Good Night Out Campaign.

No one turned away for lack of funds.
Email dsflfirsttimers@gmail.com in advance for a free place.

Donations welcome and will go to the workshop facilitators and enabling others to attend the workshops for free.

💖 About First Timers Fest 💖

FTF is a season of workshops followed by a two-day festival where every band plays its first show. FTF is about getting new faces and voices in bands, and doing something about the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community.

As a direct way of addressing the lack of diversity in the make-up of the DIY music community, our workshops centre people who are disabled (visible or non-visible), LGBTQIA+ folk, people of colour, and women. As well, we are here to support people who have never played in a band before // never played the instrument they've always wanted to learn before because of their class, race, gender, mental health, etc.

Our 2018 festival will be taking place on May 5th & 6th 2018. Applications are open until 1st March: goo.gl/jSZRk3

💖 About the venue, DIY Space for London 💖

DIY Space for London is on a single floor level, with access ramps, widened doors, an accessible toilet and plenty of space for manoeuvring and getting away from crowds. There is plenty of seating available and the toilets are gender neutral and accessible.

On entering the venue there is a small ramp, which is quite steep and might require assistance going up and down. If you are a wheelchair user and not travelling with anyone, let us know in advance you are coming so someone at the venue can be there to assist.

If you would like to discuss access, please get in touch or visit our website: https://diyspaceforlondon.org/access

Email - access@diyspaceforlondon.org

Phone – 020 7635 9470 (Leave a message and we will respond)

Postal – 96-108 Ormside St, London SE15 1TF

Response time – Someone will be able to respond within 5 days

Our volunteers are happy to meet event attendees at the nearest bus stop, please contact to arrange.

DIY Space has an Access Group that is always working to improve accessibility. Most recently it worked towards making DIY Space For London the UK’s first volunteer-run venue to achieve Bronze status on the Charter of Best Practice from Attitude Is Everything – a charity that improves Deaf and disabled people’s access to live music.
