On April 14th, millions will mobilize under the banner of the March for Science to counter science denial and support publicly funded science. Join us after the NYC march for a discussion and organizing session where we will grapple with issues related to racism, sexism, and economic injustice in science.
We recognize that a call for the systematic inclusion of science in policy is not an inherently neutral counter to the inequitable impacts of its exclusion. As science gains widespread recognition as being inextricably linked to both the social and political, it is imperative to examine why its dismissal is propagated, how it is misused, and who is missing from the discourse around its applications.
In the loft of one of the largest independent & radical publishers, Verso Books, a panel will feature representatives from Black Youth Project 100, NYC for Abortion Rights, and Science for the People NYC, with opening remarks by Clifford Conner, author of A People's History of Science. We will work through the lens of scientific research and applications, and will build pathways for individuals and groups working in various capacities to connect in social justice efforts.
