Jogo Bonito translated from Portuguese means "the beautiful game" and is a term used to characterize a particular style in Capoeira, Samba and Soccer. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian Martial Art with origins in Central and West Africa and was used a means of liberation from colonial oppression and slavery by the enslaved Africans. Capoeira differs from other martial arts in that Capoeira is considered a "game" where two practitioners have a non-verbal conversation with their bodies much like call and response in African music. In Capoeira their are no winners or losers but rather favor goes to the player with the better skill, grace and beauty: jogo bonito. As with any healing movement modality, through deep practice, one gains mastery over one's Self and essentially one's life.
In this workshop, you will explore the similarities between Kundalini Yoga and Capoeira Angola. Both access creative/sexual energy that resides in the lower chakras and can be elevated through movement and sound vibration healing one's body/mind/spirit and lifetimes of karma.
PART ONE:
We will begin with a Kundalini Yoga set. Kundalini Yoga uses Asana (yoga postures), Pranayam (breathing techniques), Mantra (use of sound to alter thought patterns and brain chemistry), Mudra (hand positions to channel energy flow) and Meditation (quieting the mind to promote mental clarity and self-awareness). With this yoga, you will break through the blockages in our charkas (energy vortices along the spine), alter our life condition and heal lifetimes of karma. This leads to a more fulfilled, integrated, and prosperous life.
PART TWO:
In the second half of our workshop, we will begin with gentle stretching, learn basic Capoeira movements, practical applications of those movements as self-defense techniques to empower, conquer fears and heal trauma.
WHEN:
Sunday Nov. 19th from 11-12:30pm
RSVP:
$10-15 suggested donation. Although no one will be turned away for lack of funds.

Please don't judge or conclude what you are able or not able to do. We will help you work through your limitations; energetic, mental and physical. If necessary, we will make modifications so that EVERYONE can experience a sense of Self mastery over their mind and body. Just show up...for your Self and your community.
It is not if you win or lose...it's how you play the game.
