--------
The Latin American community is the fastests growing migrant group in the UK, with a big concentration in the multicultural metropolis that is London. As the community expands, the task of creating records that help reflect the life of these communities becomes necessary for the construction of the collective memory, the memory of a distinct group that helps shaping the contemporary history and landscape of London.

Migration is a process that has profound effects for those migrating as well as for the surrounding community. In a time in which public discourses around migration are mostly based on populistic rhetorics of fear, it is important to encourage narratives that counter these reactionary tendencies and that portray migrants in a more complex, integral and human way.

Each of the groups included in this exhibition is committed to struggles that are not limited to local experience, but which resonate across borders - of boroughs and of countries. Today’s local struggles are not isolated, as the patterns of oppression repeat themselves on a global scale. We must make sure we connect the dots and understand that solidarity with and between those being rejected and oppressed is needed for the global fight for social justice.

This is a compilation of existing material, which has been kindly allowed to be used by United Voices of the World, Save the Latin Village and Wards Corner, Natasha Quarmby Photography and London Mexico Solidarity.
