Americans for Refugees & Immigrants
Emergency Rally: Say No to The Nazis!
The flagrant display of violence, misogyny, anti-Semitism, and racism in Charlottesville needs a coherent, outraged response. The lukewarm comments from Trump is not a surprise, and the meager comments by GOP are not sufficient. To allow the Charlottesville’s event to pass with a weak response will only embolden the Alt-Right, the Nazis, the KKK, anti-Semites and misogynists to further hateful action.
We do not accept Nazis shouting "Jews will not replace us!" We do not accept violence against Americans of any gender or color or creed. We will not be silenced by bigots, nor cowed by their violence. We will not forget Heather Heyer!
We have partnered with the ACLU, Congressman Adam Smith and the Truman National Security Project-Seattle Chapter for this rally!
Please join us this Sunday the 20th of August from 1pm to 4pm, at Westlake Park, to protest the hate, violence, anti-Semitism, and racism of the Nazis and the Alt-Right.
We demand the following:
1. Sebastian Gorka, who earlier this week attacked the media for discussing white supremacist hate and is himself linked to a Hungarian Nazi-affiliated organization, and Steven Miller, the writer of the Muslim Ban, should be fired from their White House positions and no longer receive taxpayer-funded salaries.
2. Countering Violent Extremism funding for programs that prevent violence driven by hateful ideologies, which President Trump's Department of Homeland Security has taken steps to cut since February, should be re-prioritized by the administration immediately. This should be complimented by Attorney General Jeff Sessions issuing clear guidance to the Department of Justice identifying white nationalist terrorism as a top priority alongside other counterterrorism work.
3. That House representatives sign on to the Articles of Impeachment introduced by Rep. Cohen (D-TN) due to "the President’s abject failure of leadership and showing an inability to have moral rectitude and be the leader of this nation in times of crisis with his remarks about Charlottesville on Sunday and then again on Tuesday."
4. And finally, we ask elected officials from both sides of the aisle to publicly support the above demands.
Speakers:
Michael Ramos, Church Council of greater Seattle
Ross Cohen, Truman National Security Project, veteran
Cary Moon
Sheley Secrest, VP III, NAACP
former State Representative, city council member and Chair of the State Republican Party, Chris Vance
