Self Care For Activists - Hosted by Young Feminists London

Am 23. Juli 2017 14:00 - 18:30

Beschreibung

Dear Social Justice Warriors of London,
Young Feminists London Presents to you another **FREE** afternoon of activist discussion and entertainment ... but this time it's all about good old SELF.CARE.

Since the brexit/trump palava it's fair to say that activists across London have had a lot more marching, campaigning (& crying) to do. When it feels like the future is looking worse than before and the government announces more crap, you're likely to either have a breakdown OR go on activist-overdrive and burnout.. Either way, you need to come to this event, sit back and re-fuel.

We are proud to reveal this diverse and inspiring line up of activists, comedians and poets:

2.15:
Welcome and Introduction

2.30:
WILL PIKE
Will is a disability spokesperson and activist- focussed on changing attitudes toward disabled people. He recently started a campaign for improved acceptability for wheelchair users in London. Watch his incredible campaign video ‘Yes I Can, If...’ here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjvYZ2jvvp8
And follow this link to sign his petition:

3.00:
HARRIET BRAINE
Funny Women Award winning comedian Harriet Braine writes parody songs about art, and sometimes (rarely) other things. Her act has been described as a ‘multitalented force of nature’ (Buxton Festival Fringe 2017) and ‘fairly niche’ (Stylist). She is taking her debut solo show ‘Total Eclipse of the Art’ to the Edinburgh Fringe this year.
She can be found on Facebook @harrietbrainecomedy and on twitter @HarrietBraine

3.30:
TAKYIWA DANSO
Takyiwa Danso is a 24yr old Youth Development activist from London. She advocates for greater youth participation in decision-making spaces and promotes the power of youth voices, with the support of different civil society groups. She also works within the charity sector on delivering sustainable development programmes.

She regularly curates the Pride Trans Community Area at Brighton Pride creating a visible, safe and entertaining space for the Trans community. She has also spoken at Polari, Reclaim The Night and Brighton Women's Voices to name a few and currently has green hair.

5.00:
FATIHA EL GHORRI
Forever getting lost on her way to the mosque and finding herself on the open mic circuit smashing Muslim stereotypes!
You can find her on Facebook and Instagram at Fatiha El-Ghorri and on Twitter at @fatihaelghorri

5.30:
BEN
Self care guru at 21 years old, Ben will be telling his story on how he overcame Post Traumatic Stress Disorder through practicing self love and meditation. He will be discussing the importance of self-compassion for dealing with criticism, judgements and expectations offering a heart warming solution to coping with life.

6-6.30
YOUNG FEMINISTS LONDON
Self Care Top Tips from the founders of Young Feminists London who will then open a discussion with the audience and acts to wrap up an uplifting afternoon of food for thought and entertainment.

We welcome all self-identifying genders and encourage anyone who would like to explore activism in a safe and inclusive environment to come along. Our only requirements are Respect and an Open Mind. This event features activists from all areas of social justice, not just gender politics.

So whether your a burnt-out activist, or a fresh new feminist full of energy, maybe you don't consider yourself an activist at all but just love self care? Who ever you are, we invite you to learn how our lineup of revolutionary Londoners cope with the emotional fight for social justice and the secrets behind maintaining all that activist energy to keep marching on.

We can't wait to meet you all there for a top-up of inspiration.
Love,
Young Feminists London
