Led by Derya Yıldırım’s hypnotizing saz and vocals, Grup Şimşek are a group of outernational avant-garde, who embody the essence of 70s Anatolian psych-folk, playing and improvising compositions by artists such as Selda Bağcan, Barış Manço and Özdemir Erdoğan.
Having been brought together by the mercurial musical anthropologist Booty Carrell in Hamburg and featuring members of Orchestre Du Mont-Plaisant, the quintet are set to release their first EP "Nem Kaldı" in early 2017 on Catapulte Records and Bongo Joe Records.
Before the live show, Spatzhabibi will be pouring tea from a hard-to-imagine height, while afterwards we're delighted to welcome Cashmere Radio's Ross Alexander, another well-travelled anthropologist of sound, to celebrate our first night back on the roof in 2017.
