Feminist Dialogue Seminar: The Impact of Free Trade Agreements on Women's Rights

The RCEP is expected to impact on the lives of 3.5 billion people, including the 67 million people in Thailand – more than half of which are women. And yet it has been negotiated in total secrecy. So while certain corporate and business groups have been invited to the negotiations by government officials, ordinary people, women, indigenous communities and workers who will be most adversely impacted have had no say whatsoever. The RCEP, when signed by Thailand will bind every future government as well as every level of Thai governance (local, village, city etc.).

This seminar intends to raise awareness and understanding of free trade agreements, such as RCEP and the impact it will have on people’s lives, especially women. This seminar is also part of the joint mobilizing and organizing of national and civil societies from across the region that are coming together to rise and mobilize against RCEP. Join us as we call for an absolutely end to the Robbing of Communities to Extract Profit, and for a framework that aims to reduce inequalities of wealth, power and resources between countries, between rich and poor, and between men and women.
