Sadhbh McCarthy, Security & Defence Researcher & Consultant, will give a brief overview of approaches to policing in a digital age, including the policing of future crimes and the use of surveillance in social media. She will also talk a little about her journey into this fascinating area.

Former WITS Chair, Sadhbh McCarthy, is a researcher and consultant in Security and Defence. As an active participant in the European Security Agenda for the last 12 years she is familiar with the objectives, priorities, political sensitivities and ancillary considerations across the sector. Sadhbh, holding a particular interest in concepts of privacy and fundamental rights, specializes in understanding the societal governance around security policies and explicit technologies & applications.: Societal Governance in Disaster Response; efficacy of European counter-terrorism measures; Societal considerations in Border Control & the use of Social Media for Intelligence gathering. Sadhbh balances her commitments with advisory board roles in European projects, NGOs and private companies.
